Last week I told you I was going to do my own 7-day Meditation Challenge and see if it's all hooey or actually helpful.
And I'll be honest with you - I totally didn't do it on the weekends because the excuse/sabotage train rolled into the station. BUT I did start back up again on Monday morning. I'm not perfect, just persistent.
I have to say though, I really enjoy my 10 minutes every morning to myself.
My alarm goes off, I roll over and swipe it off then immediately turn on my Pandora Calm/Meditation playlist. I sit crossed legged in bed with the covers still on me (because I'm basically always cold) and I start my 10 minutes.
I found what works for me is to go through each part of my body and tell it (gently) to relax and let go of tension. I start at the top of my head and work my way down to my toes. By the time I get to my hips, my body is has released most of the tension I feel and it actually becomes hard work to stay lifted and upright.
I also found that a mantra that was the same thing over and over was boring by the 2nd day. So i used the time to pray and to say all the things that I'm grateful for.
And you know what?
Starting my day with this release of tension, attention on what I'm grateful for, and deep breathing for centering actually feels amazing!
On the days that I meditate, I get so much done - it's crazy! I actually feel lighter, more focused, less afraid, and a lot less negative. It's easier to focus on the positive and find the little nuggets of gold in each day.
Like for instance, today I asked my client about what impact the 90 Day Total Body Transformation has had for her and what she told me was so amazingly beautiful that I asked if I could quote her. I'd like to share that with you all:
"You’re a unique person, you express yourself very well and very differently and you have a way of giving feedback so succinctly and so quickly. I can say something and you can give it back to me so quickly. It’s an extremely unique gift. Talking about what gets in the way for me, is really helpful because I don’t have that in my life. To have the opportunity and have you be a presence that says well let’s tease it out a little bit and look at the positive or challenge and how you can approach it differently." – Rita, 90 Day Total Body Transformation
I won't lie to you, having your own business and being the sole breadwinner is tough. And there are times when I'd like to flip the table.
That's why I added in meditation.
Because I needed something to balance me out.
My body was begging for a break and I was ignoring it, putting myself last.
But because I gave it some attention and shifted my mindset around what I was doing, I get to have moments like that with my client. Moments like that are why I do this - to be that person for my client that they need in their life. And I'm incredibly grateful and blessed that I am able to be that force of positivity and change.
So in conclusion, is meditation hooey or helpful? Helpful times 1000!
But I would encourage you to find a way to meditate that works for you. Don't stress about "doing it right" because there is no right way. Find time every day where you can feel relaxed, grounded, and focused on all the good and just watch it change your life.
As always, thank you for reading!
And remember, today is the day you take back your life.
