Why Rites of Passage Are Keeping You Stuck

By Rachael Taylor

Did you ever hit a mile stone and while it’s happening think “This is it? I thought I’d feel different…” I know I have. Let’s just say that turning 21 wasn’t all it’s cracked up to be and I’ve never touched tequila since (we’ve all been there).

I find that because we are such goal oriented creatures that we have trouble feeling successful or settled when we do hit mile stones and rites of passage. Furthermore, trying to enjoy the journey to the goal becomes nearly impossible. There’s an incredible amount of stress and pressure we put on ourselves to work, work and work a little harder until x is achieved. But then we almost instantly create a new goal and we’re back spinning on our hamster wheel.

Wouldn’t it be nice if there was a way you could enjoy the journey to your goal? Instead of being miserable until you reach it?

The good news is, there is a way! And it’s easier than you think.

To start, think about what you’re working towards right now. Whether it’s personal, financial, quality or kind of relationship, think about what you want. If it helps, write it down!

Then I want you to ask yourself, “What happens for me when I get that?”

In other words, what emotion or experience are you receiving from that?

Now ask yourself, is there any way I can’t feel that way right now?

These three questions are big and powerful, take some time to write down your answers and be honest about what you want to have. It could be that you find some super big reasons as to why you’re not allowed to feel a certain way without that milestone. And I want to challenge you to shift that just a little bit.

What could happen for your daily life if instead of holding yourself back and denying yourself pleasure and enjoyment because you haven’t had that rite of passage, you recognize how far you’ve already come in your life and you celebrate it?

What would happen if you focused on all the wonderful things that have happened for you?

Gratitude and remembrance are powerful. So is accepting who you are and loving yourself.

That’s why confidence is so key to everything we do. Because when you have confidence that you are exactly where you need to be and you have confidence in knowing that you’re enough exactly the way you are, you become unstoppable.

If this is something you want to work on and fast track so you can bypass years of feeling frustrated that you’re not further along, I invite you to talk with me in a Strategy Session. Together we’ll build a custom coaching plan to shift your mindset, actions and beliefs so you can have unshakable confidence.
